NCAA Division 2 cancels 2020 Fall Championships

COVID-19 delivered another blow to the chance to see college sports in the Fall.

The NCAA Division II Presidents Council decided to cancel the Fall 2020 championships.

The council "determined that it was not feasible to hold fall championships as planned or postpone them to the spring" for the health and well-being of the student-athletes. The NCAA Board of Governors allowed each division of the association to decide independently whether it will be able to conduct championship events safely in fall sports such as soccer, volleyball and lower levels of football during the coronavirus pandemic.

The board had been considering what to do about fall championship events sponsored by the NCAA, but instead of making a broad decision across three divisions, it set parameters for each to make its own call by August 21. Within hours of the board's announcement, the Division II and Division III presidents council wiped out fall sports championships.
